Frequently Asked Questions

Drivers

Do I have to accept every PiggiBack trip offered?

No. PiggiBack is strictly opt-in. Drivers remain fully in control and can accept, ignore, or snooze opportunities at any time. There are no penalties for non-acceptance.

Does PiggiBack replace my existing taxi or ride-hailing apps?

No. PiggiBack is designed to complement, not replace, existing platforms. It focuses specifically on return journeys or low-utilisation miles, not primary earnings activity.

Will PiggiBack affect my licensing or insurance status?

No. PiggiBack does not operate as a licensed operator during the pilot phase and does not interfere with existing licensing or insurance arrangements. Full regulatory alignment will precede any scaled deployment.

Does the app track me all the time?

No. During the pilot, data capture is limited, purpose-specific, and consent-based. Drivers can pause or snooze tracking, and no continuous passenger-style tracking is performed.

Riders

Who is PiggiBack for?

PiggiBack is intended for passengers who are flexible, value-driven, and environmentally conscious, particularly those travelling along routes that align with a driver’s return journey.

Are PiggiBack journeys cheaper than traditional rides?

PiggiBack pricing is indicative during the pilot and designed to reflect shared value rather than surge pricing. There is no surge manipulation or forced pricing behaviour.

Is PiggiBack safe?

Safety is foundational. Only licensed drivers participate, and all pilot journeys are measured and reviewed at a system level. No open marketplace or anonymous matching is used during early phases.

Does the app track me all the time?

No. During the pilot, data capture is limited, purpose-specific, and consent-based. Drivers can pause or snooze tracking, and no continuous passenger-style tracking is performed.

Platform, Ethics & Governance

Is PiggiBack a ride-hailing platform?

Not in the conventional sense. PiggiBack is a return-trip optimisation and matching system, designed to reduce empty miles rather than compete with primary ride-hailing services.

How does PiggiBack make money?

The platform is designed around low, transparent fees aligned with sustainability and fairness. Revenue assumptions remain indicative and will be validated through pilot data.

Does PiggiBack manipulate driver behaviour?

No. PiggiBack explicitly avoids surge pressure, gamification traps, or behavioural coercion. Participation is voluntary, transparent, and driver-controlled.

Who governs PiggiBack?

PiggiBack operates under a founder-led governance model with clear ethical safeguards, auditability principles, and a regulatory-first approach to scaling.

Pilot, Research & Data

Is PiggiBack live today?

PiggiBack is currently in a research and pilot phase. The initial focus is data validation, impact measurement, and system integrity—not commercial scale.

What data is collected during the pilot?

Only minimum viable data required to measure:

  • Directional efficiency

  • Return-trip alignment

  • Potential COâ‚‚ reduction

  • Indicative economic uplift

No personal data is sold or repurposed.

How is environmental impact measured?

Impact is measured at a journey level, focusing on avoided empty miles and indicative COâ‚‚ savings. All figures are conservative and subject to independent validation as the pilot progresses.

What happens after the pilot?

Pilot findings will inform:

  • Regulatory engagement

  • Council partnerships

  • Ethical deployment safeguards

  • Decisions on wider rollout

No scale-up occurs without validated data and stakeholder alignment.

All figures, assumptions, and outcomes presented during the pilot phase are indicative only and subject to validation. PiggiBack makes no performance guarantees at this stage.
